The University of Port Harcourt was ranked sixth in Africa and first in Nigeria by Times Higher Education in 2015. The university’s substantive vice chancellor, Professor George Owunari, was appointed in July 2021.

UNIPORT recently accomplished a significant milestone by being the first institution in Nigeria to train the first group of nuclear engineers under the leadership of the current Vice Chancellor, Professor Nimi Briggs. The University also received funding from the World Bank to establish an oilfield chemicals center of excellence. Regardless of the course you apply for, the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) cut off mark for the University of Port Harcourt this year is 150. As a result, any student who took the JAMB exam and received a score of at least 150 may proceed to the application review stage.

What is an Aggregate Score?

If we merely use the word “aggregate” in its literal sense, it signifies a whole that is created by merging a number of different elements. When utilizing this terminology, a lot of confusion results. The terms aggregate percentage and total % are frequently used interchangeably.

Aggregate percentage cannot always be referred to as total percentage, whereas total percentage can always be referred to as aggregate percentage. While aggregate percentage may or may not take into account all components, total percentage always does. When calculating an aggregate score, we can do it by relying just on a limited number of factors (certain subjects, some semesters, etc.).

If you wish to calculate the overall percentage for all six semesters, you must take all six semesters’ grades into account. The overall proportion will remain constant. However, you must identify the aggregate percentage that takes into account only the marks from the second, fourth, and sixth semesters if you only require the aggregate of these three semesters.

How to Calculate UNIPORT Aggregate Score

Let’s define an overall score or cutoff point. An applicant’s combined JAMB (Joint Admission and Matriculation Board) and Post UTME results are used to determine their aggregate score. For some universities, you would also need to consider your O’level grades in addition to your JAMB and post-UTME scores.

Knowing your total score is crucial since it will determine whether you qualify for university admission. Before you may enroll in the course at Uniport, your combined score must be higher than the departmental cutoff point for the course.

Every university is required to abide by the official cut off mark published by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB)

However, regardless of how well you do in your jamb, if you are able to perform really well in your post-UTME, you will find that you have a very high aggregate score.

This is a result of University of Port Harcourt’s preference for post-UTME scores above JAMB results.

To calculate UNIPORT aggregate score, you would need to know your JAMB score and post UTME scores. Once you have that information handy, you can go ahead and use this calculation procedure below.

JAMB UTME is made up of 400 marks, while uniport post UTME is made up of 100 marks.

  • Simply divide your jamb score by 8
  • Divide your Post UTME scores by 2
  • Add up the result
  • Your UNIPORT aggregate score appears after that.

To better understand this calculation process, let’s check this illustration below.

Let’s assume Bunmi, a candidate applying to study at the University of Port Harcourt, has a JAMB score of 260 and Post UTME score of 65. To calculate her aggregate score:

  •  JAMB exam score – 280 / 8 = 35
  • Post UTME score is 65, then divided by 2 – 65/2 = 32.5
  • Total of JAMB score and Post UTME  is 35 + 32.5 = 67.5

Bunmi’s overall score is 67.5.
