  • Achieve a first-class average in each of the last two years of full-time study or its equivalent, as determined by your institution.
  • Not hold or have held a doctoral-level scholarship or fellowship from CIHR, NSERC, or SSHRC to undertake or complete a doctoral degree.

Application Process: Candidates must be nominated by a Canadian institution with a Vanier CGS quota where they intend to study. Direct applications to the Vanier CGS program are not accepted.

The application process can be initiated in two ways:

The student informs the faculty of graduate studies at the selected institution of their intent to apply.

The institution initiates the nomination process by contacting the desired candidate.

Applications are prepared by the student and submitted to the nominating institution by their internal deadline using the ResearchNet application system.

Nominating institutions then forward recommended nominations to the Vanier-Banting Secretariat (the Secretariat) by 1st November 2023.

Leiden University Excellence Scholarships (LexS)

Overview: The Leiden University Excellence Scholarship Programme (LExS) invites exceptional non-EEA/non-EFTA students to enroll in full-time master’s degree programs at Leiden University.

Eligible Fields of Study: All full-time master’s programs at Leiden University, except for:

  • Leiden Law School’s LLM (non-advanced) and MSc programs

  • Hold a non-EEA/non-EFTA passport and should not be eligible for support under the Dutch system of study grants and loans (Studiefinanciering), except for students applying for the LLM Advanced Studies programs or the MSc in International Relations and Diplomacy, which have no nationality restrictions.
