Wellspring University’s History
The Wellspring University story is one of growth and vision. Although the university officially opened in 2010, its roots trace back to 1983 with the establishment of the Management Science Centre. This center, initially a hub for professional training and educational consulting, was the seed from which Wellspring University grew.
Over the years, the Management Science Centre showed its dedication to education by coaching numerous students at the University of Lagos and partnering with various institutions to offer undergraduate and postgraduate courses. In 2006, after two decades of fruitful collaborations, the center decided to take a significant leap by working towards establishing its own university. This vision came to fruition in November 2009 when Wellspring University was granted a provisional license, marking a new chapter in Nigerian private university education.
Since its inception, Wellspring University has expanded impressively. Starting with just seven undergraduate courses in two colleges, it now offers 18 undergraduate courses across three colleges and a range of postgraduate courses in its School of Postgraduate Studies.
The university’s Chancellor, Pst. Ituah Ighodalo, is a remarkable figure with a diverse background. A pastor, accountant, thinker, social reformer, and writer, his academic journey began at Kings College Lagos and the International School University of Ibadan, culminating in a combined honors degree in Economics and Accounting from the University of Hull, England, in 1982. He became a Chartered Accountant in 1986 and later attended a Business Management Course at Harvard Business School in 2011.
Ighodalo’s professional career is equally impressive, starting at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in 1982 and leading to the founding of his accounting firm, Ighodalo & Co., in 1987. He has held numerous leadership positions in the corporate world, including chairmanships at FAMAD Nig. Plc., FALCON Corporations, and several other organizations. His contributions extend to academia and government, where he has served on various panels and as an advisor since 1991.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Ighodalo is deeply involved in philanthropy and community service, chairing and participating in multiple charitable organizations and NGOs. His enthusiasm for sports is evident in his roles in various sports clubs and initiatives.
He and his wife, Ibidunni, are proud parents to two wonderful children, Unuakemonyi and Ehizenan, showcasing a life that balances professional success with personal fulfillment and community service.
