KOMU Cut Off Mark 2023/2024

The Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe University general cut off mark for the 2023/2024 academic session is 140. This means that any candidate who scores 140 and above in the UTME examination is eligible for the KOMU post UTME screening exercise.

However, scoring the set cut off mark alone does not guarantee admission as the available departmental quota must also be put into consideration.

So in addition to attaining the required KOMU UTME cut off mark of 140, you must also attain the KOMU departmental cut off mark for your chosen course before you stand a chance of gaining admission into the university.

The Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe University management conducts admission screening exercises after the release of JAMB UTME results to determine the candidates that meet the KOMU cut off mark for each school and also qualify for admission in their respective departments.

Please note: Meeting the above listed cut off marks for your chosen course does not guarantee your admission if the quota for the department has already been met.

Admission into KOMU is very competitive. So you need to score higher than the stated cut off marks to increase your chances of admission.

Scoring 5 credits and above including English and Mathematics in WASSCE/NECO is also required to boost your chances so you should not rely on JAMB scores alone.

Why the KOMU Cut Off Mark is Important

The Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe University cut off mark is very important for the following reasons:

  1. It helps candidates determine if they are eligible to apply for admission into KOMU or not: If you score below the cut off mark of 140, you are automatically ineligible to participate in the KOMU post UTME screening exercise or apply for admission via direct entry. You will not be offered admission if you do not meet this basic requirement.
  2. It serves as a screening benchmark for the university: The minimum score set by KOMU helps the admission board screen and shortlist qualified candidates for the available degree programs. By setting this benchmark, candidates who do not meet this basic academic standard are filtered out.
  3. It helps set a merit order during admission: Meeting the cut off mark does not automatically qualify you for admission in KOMU. Your UTME/Departmental cut off mark scores help the admission board select the best candidates with the highest scores for admission until the approved quota is filled up. So you need to aim higher than the minimum 140 mark.
  4. Reduces admission requests to the barest minimum: By insisting that interested candidates meet the set cut off mark before applying for admission, KOMU is able to control and manage admission requests from thousands of candidates seeking degree programs.

How To Calculate Your KOMU Post UTME/Aggregate Score

Admission into KOMU is not done using JAMB scores alone as it is very competitive. To determine candidates suitable for admission, 40% of your O’Level grades and 60% of your UTME scores are combined to arrive at a cut off mark aggregate score.

This simply means that you stand a higher chance of admission if you do well in both your O’Levels and UTME.

See the formula for calculating your aggregate cut off mark below:

  • JAMB Score: 60%
  • O’Level Score: 40%

So for example:

  • If you score 270 in JAMB UTME
  • And you have A1 parallel in your WAEC/NECO exams

To calculate your post UTME aggregate score you simply:

  • Multiply your JAMB score by 60% (270 x 60% = 162)
  • Then multiply your O’Level score by 40%. Let’s assume your WAEC score in parallel is 60/100 when converted to percentage.
  • So 60 x 40% = 24
  • Add the two scores together:
    • UTME: 162
    • O’Level: 24
    • Total Aggregate Score = 186

So your total post UTME aggregate score will be 186.

Candidates with the highest aggregate cut off mark scores within the available admission quota are offered provisional admission per department/course.
